Unveiling an Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have found plenty of entertaining creations from small studios. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game lets you play a hero that is truly a dung attempting to travel to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is easy to grasp: press a single jump button. In one hundred fifty stages, encounter mini-bosses and unlock a shop to buy outfits for your poop character.

Plan your jumps with caution, as a error requires restarting the level. Bounce using air pockets to propel yourself higher, navigate disappearing surfaces, and activate triggers to unlock secret routes. Earn coins and use them on tougher levels as gameplay intensifies.

Graphically, the game shows off eye-catching environments and catchy soundtrack. The simple visual style featuring moving geometric shapes may remind fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's tough to recall similar titles where you are a dung character, interactive entertainment frequently featured scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from protagonist droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. And of course, such content shows up extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly premise, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is available now on Steam, with the final release scheduled to debut on computers on November 19.
